About the Internship
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:A. Metric development and implementation
1. Analyse data generated by AI systems to identify patterns and create measurements of ethical behaviour
2. Write Python code to calculate measurements from operational data (how many words the AI processed, how fast it responded, what safety filters triggered, error rates)
3. Document how each measurement is calculated, what data inputs it needs, and the logic behind it
4. Build test cases to validate measurements work correctly across different scenarios
5. Identify situations where available data isn't sufficient to calculate what we need
B. Regulatory framework mapping
1. Map our measurements to specific requirements in regulations like the UK AI Playbook, EU AI Act, GDPR, and government transparency standards
2. Research and document how our measurements provide evidence of compliance with these regulations
3. Create matrices showing relationships between what we measure and what regulators require
4. Identify gaps where regulations need evidence but we don't yet have measurements to provide it
5. Draft evidence statements that automatically fill in from measurement data for audit purposes
C. Data Analysis and pattern recognition
1. Analyse datasets from AI systems to spot unusual patterns, trends, and potential problems
2. Build visualisations showing how measurements change over time
3. Identify threshold values that indicate when an AI system is behaving problematically
4. Document patterns that correlate with known compliance or ethical issues
5. Support calibration of scoring systems using real production data
D. Documentation and knowledge transfer
1. Write clear technical documentation explaining how measurements work
2. Create user-facing explanations of complex ethical concepts for non-technical audiences (procurement teams, compliance officers, executives)
3. Document integration processes, data structures, and how to connect to our platform
4. Maintain specifications for new measurements under development
5. Contribute to research documentation for academic publication
E. Research and market intelligence
1. Monitor emerging approaches to measuring responsible AI behaviour globally
2. Track new regulations and policy developments affecting AI governance
3. Research how other platforms and tools measure AI system behaviour
4. Identify potential measurements from academic research that could be implemented in our platform
5. Document findings in accessible formats for both technical and business stakeholders
