Around 1000 Applications for 20 Seats in MBA at Pune University

As the admission process for MBA course is coming to an end after four rounds of selection process already being conducted by centralized admission procedure (CAP), there are 20 remaining seats which is still need to be filled by the University and for the same University by far has received nearly 1000 application request which is more than twice from the last year. Previous year for the same number of seats 450 students have applied.

Prafulla A. Pawar, director of PUMBA at Unipune said that “In total there are 180 seats for the course, of which 160 were filled in the four rounds of CAP. However, like last year, we had 20 seats vacant and so decided to conduct the admissions at the institution level. And, surprisingly, the applications rose at this point.”  He further added to this He added that there is the number of factors which affects the admissions, including the competition with Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies(JBIMS), Mumbai, students sometimes opt for different college or course even after getting enrolled at University, resulting the seats to be vacant.

“We have the second highest cut-off of 114, and are the second most sought-out MBA institute in Maharashtra, after JBIMS. There is always this case of vertical movement whereby students keep trying to get into the best. Those that get through PUMBA aspire for JBIMS and so on, while others from outside of Pune, look for options in their cities or districts, causing a few seats to go vacant. But, this being the last round, such a surge of aspirants was expected,” said Mr. Pawar.

The process of reviewing and shortlisting the applications for the admissions in MBA course closed on 12th of August 14, 2018,  and the merit list of selected students will be announced on the next day i.e Monday, August 13, 2018. The counseling round will be held on August 14th.

Expressing his views on the two-fold increased applications this year, Prafulla A. Pawar said, “Every year we do see a slight rise in applications and this year it has been quite a jump. It's mainly because of placements. While there are other factors like faculty, alumni and industry connect, content, etc, which play, the major reason out of all is definitely placements that big institutions like ours can provide, as opposed to a number of other management institutes in the state.”
