Collegesearch interviewed Maulik Gandhi who had scored 99.74 in XAT 2014 to know the story behind his success. He was of the view that any candidate who has done sufficient preparation for CAT can ace the exam easily. He also strongly recommended the practice of previous year question papers to understand the status of the preparation level and then focus on those areas where more effort was needed. He had taken XAT in addition to six other competitive exams-NMAT, CMAT,SNAP, IIFT,MAT and Maharashtra CET. Referring to XAT being toughest among them, he said that it was purely due to the time constraint and the difficulty level being a notch up higher. He was also of the opinion that the changes in the XAT paper pattern would help students in focusing on accuracy of their answers more than the time constraint associated with it. He has suggested the following strategies to do the exam well:
• Start with attempting those sections in which you are strong
• Don't spend more than a minute on any question. If you are stuck, move ahead.
• Maintain a balance in attempting sections. A higher score in a single section will not help balance weaker performance in the other.
• Solve as many previous year question papers as possible to keep improving on your weaker areas and to get a hint on the status of your preparation.
Thus, by following Maulik's strategies, students are expected to do well in the exam and come out with flying colors.
