UGC NET December 2018: Things to Know Before Registration

The Online Registration for University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test, commonly known as UGC NET has commenced from September 1, 2018, and the last date to apply for the same is September 30, 2018. The NET December 2018 examination will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grant Commission. The examination will be conducted for 84 subjects across 91 cities. The candidates aspiring to appear for UGC NET December examination must visit the official website of NTA at nta.ac.in.

Before Registering for the examination, the candidates must read the below-mentioned important things about UGC NET 2018:

Purpose of Examination:

  • The examination is conducted for eligibility for Assistant Professor post and granting Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The candidate can appear for both simultaneously i.e. for Assistant Professor Post and Junior Research Fellowship. The candidate who has completed their Research programme can appear only for Assistant Professor Post also.

About Fellowship:

  • The candidates who will qualify for Junior Research Fellowship will be eligible to receive grants from UGC under various schemes.

Mode of Examination:

  • UGC NET December 2018 examination will be conducted only in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode. Earlier, the examination was conducted in Paper-Pen mode but from December, the mode of examination has been changed by the National Testing Agency.

Number of Papers:

Earlier the examination consisted of three papers. The first paper used to be common for all the students whereas the second and third paper were subject-based. However, from UGC NET July 2018, the examination consists of two papers. The first paper is common for all the students and the second paper is subject-based.

Exam Pattern:

  • Both the papers i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2 will comprise a total number of 150 objective type questions.
  • Paper 1 will be of 100 marks and will carry 50 questions.
  • Paper 2 will be of 200 marks and will carry 100 questions.

Eligibility for Examination:

  • The candidates who have completed their Post Graduate Degree with a minimum of 55 percent aggregate from the University recognized by the University Grant Commission.
  • The candidates in the Final Year of Graduation can also apply for the examination.
  • The candidates who have completed their Graduation before September 19, 1991, will be provided an additional relaxation of 5 percent.

Date and Time of Examination:

  • The examination will be conducted between December 9 to December 23, 2018, on Sundays in two shifts. The first shift will be conducted from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM and the second shift will be conducted from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM. There will be a lunch break of an hour between both the papers.

Subject of Examination:

  • The candidates can appear only in the subject of their Post-Graduation.
  • The examination is conducted in 84 subjects such as English, Hindi, Computer Science, Mass Communication, History etc.

Scribe Facility for Visually Challenged candidates:

  • The scribe facility will be provided to the Visually Challenged candidates with 40 percent or more disability. Such candidates must request the facility during registration.

Mock Tests:

  • The National Testing Agency will also be availing UGC NET 2018 Mock Tests on the official website of NTA from November onwards.

UGC NET 2018 December will be the first examination to be conducted by the National Testing Agency. Earlier, the examination was conducted by the University Grant Commission itself but from last few years until UGC NET July 2018, the examination was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
