Syllabus of TOEFL 2017

The Test of English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an English proficiency test which is required by most Canadian and the Unites States Universities. To prepare well, the aspirants need to go through the whole syllabus so that nothing would be left uncovered.

There are three tasks that an aspirant need to perform:

  • Listen and speak in response to a question

  • Read, Listen and speak in response to a question

  • Read, Listen and Write in response to a question

We can break up the syllabus to be covered in four parts to understand it in a better way:

  • Reading: It involves reading 3 or 4 passages from the academic texts and answer questions. There would be 35 to 56 questions that need to be completed in 60 to 80 minutes.

  • Listening: It involves listening to classroom discussions, lectures and conversations and then answering the questions. There would be 34 to 51 questions that need to be done in 60 to 90 minutes.

  • Speaking: It involves expressing an opinion on a familiar topic and speaking based on reading and listening tasks. There would be 6 tasks to perform in 20 minutes.

  • Writing: It involves writing essay responses based on listening tasks and reading. Also, an opinion is to be supported in writing. There would be 2 tasks which need to be completed in 50 minutes.

The key to crack this exam is to practice and practice for the given task. An aspirant has to improve its reading, listening, speaking and writing skills to clear through it.

The TOEFL is organised via the Internet; it is an important part of study abroad program for all English-speaking country. When you register for TOEFL test, you will have to provide official identification information. This information should match the identification document you will be carrying on your exam day (which is a passport in case of Indian applicants).
