Student qualifying JEE Main failed in HSC; 1400 applied for recheck

By: Archana on May 31, 2019

For a student of standard XII, the month was filled with a lot of happiness and agony at the same time because of two important results being released within a span of 2 weeks. On May 14, He was on cloud nine upon clearing one of the toughest engineering entrance of the country i.e. JEE Main. But the happiness doesn't last long as later on May 28, 2019 his HSC result were declared, and he failed in two subjects.

A lot of science students from Maharashtra, have a feeling that the state board has goofed while entering the marks and there is a high possibility that the internal marks have not been added to their final Mark Sheet.

JEE Main is a medium for thousands of students aspiring to pursue engineering in future, and even after qualifying for the central engineering institutes, his dream to join one lie in the dust. Not just him, his entire family is in state of disbelief. His mother addressed the media and said-

“The difficulty level of HSC board examination is much less in comparison to Joint Engineering Entrance, also we cannot deny the fact that the concept of physics, chemistry and biology remains same for both these examination. How then can one qualify for a difficult exam and not even get passing marks in board exam, where both these exams are based on the same syllabus.”

The board has not made any mistake in calculating the marks and the number of students applying for photocopies as a precursor to the revaluation process is similar to the last so many years- said Mr. B K Dahiphale, Secretary Pune Division.

He also added that “there are chances that a human error can happen in a case or two, but it most unlikely to happen on such big scale. Just after the release of Result the board has received 700 applications for revaluation followed by 700 applications the next day.” He also agreed that the number is not as high as it appears and in fact is less than last year.

A group of parents in Mumbai may approach school education minister Vinod Tawde and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis with their grievances regarding the matter. The Mumbai division of State Board in particular has received over 2,250 revaluation request of answer sheets.

The parent of the student who already qualified JEE Main said, even if we take a conservative number, like 15 marks given by school for internal assessment in physics and mathematics, that implies that the student has only got 8 or 12 marks in theory paper of the respective subjects which seems impossible considering the past academic performance in JEE Advanced Result
