By: Sakshi Awasthi on Apr 22, 2023

The Supreme Court of India on Monday i.e. April 1, 2019, allowed the Staff Selection Commission to declare SSC CGL 2017 Re-exam Result which was conducted last year on March 9, 2018. The bench of Justices S A Bobde and S Abdul Nazeer said that injunction granted on August 31, 2018, on the declaration of SSC CGL 2017 Result will not be continued on the re-examination conducted on March 9, 2018.

The court further said that lakhs of unemployed youths have suffered because someone from the organization was corrupt. The court has also set up a high-powered committee comprising Nandan Nilekani, a co-founder of tech giant Infosys and Vijay P Bhatkat, renowned computer scientist, to suggest reforms for conducting competitive examinations fairly by the government organizations.

SSC CGL 2017 question papers were allegedly leaked which lead to huge protests across the country by the job seekers. The Staff Selection Commission, the authority responsible for conducting SSC CGL examination, recommended CBI probe into the allegations of SSC CGL Paper Leak.

Last year on August 31, the Supreme Court stayed the declaration of SSC CGL Result saying the entire test and system seemed to be ‘tainted'. Later the examination was conducted again by the Staff Selection Commission on March 9, 2018.

The Supreme Court had earlier favored the canceling of SSC examinations for the year 2017 and referred that such examinations should either be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) or the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Currently, SSC CGL examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) that conducts examinations for recruiting staff at various levels in ministries and government departments. Every year lakhs of candidates appear for SSC CGL examination and the qualifying candidates are provided a government job in Group C and Group D categories.
