Revised Eligibility Criteria for (JEE) Mains 2017

Joint Entrance Examination or popularly known as (JEE) Mains is organized to cater top technical institutes to get the right mix of candidates for their undergraduate engineering program. Top Institutes of the nation like NITs, IIITs and few other centrally funded technical institutions located across the nation select candidates through this exam.
Dates for JEE Main 2017 exam have been announced. Pen- Paper mode of examination will take place on 2nd April while the online mode will be conducted on 8th & 9th April 2017.
The website of MHRD states, “ For the candidates to qualify for admission in the IITs/NITs/ IIITs and such other CFTIs whose admissions are based on the JEE ranks, they should have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class exam, or be in the top 20 percentile in the 12th class exam conducted by the respective boards. For SC/ST students the qualifying marks would be 65% in the 12th class exam”. Earlier SC/ST students had to secure 70% for admissions in these reputed engineering institutes.
With these proposed changes, general category candidates who secured below 75 % in Class 12th board examinations will not be eligible for admission in the top technical institutes, irrespective of their JEE Mains scores. However, for SC and ST candidates, there will be some relaxation, with the cut-off for eligibility being 65 %. Moreover, from 2017 the 12th class marks will not be a factor for calculating the AIR for Jee Mains it is contrary to the last year where 40% weightage was given to class 12th marks.
