JEE Main 2020 – One major information released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development is that the criterion of “Class 12th Marks” for admission to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) has now been dropped. The same decision was taken a few days ago for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology i.e. IITs and now for NITs. Candidates qualifying JEE Main would now only be required to submit their passing certificate of class 12th and not the marksheet for admission to the NITs, IITs, and CFTIs.

Usual Criteria for Admission to NIT

Admission to the National Institutes of Technology usually takes placed based on candidates’ performance in JEE Main entrance examination. Candidates appearing in admission procedure of NITs must have passed class 12th board exam securing at least 75% marks in aggregate from a recognized board or the top 20 percentiles in their respective qualifying examinations.

The HRD Union Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, mentioned the same in his recent tweet.

Changes Introduced for 2020

The Human Resource Development Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ adds:

“Due to prevailing circumstances, Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) has decided to relax the eligibility criterion for admissions to NITs and other CFTIs.”

Candidates who get to qualify JEE Main 2020 entrance examination will now only be required to possess a passing certificate of class 12th. The marks obtained by candidates in class 12th board exam will not be considered now for admission thus; no such limit of minimum marks has been set for students seeking admission to the NITs.

As per the announcement made by the education minister on 17th July 2020, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) decided to relax the eligibility criterion for students qualifying JEE Advanced 2020. And now, the same has been applied to the criterion for admission to NITs.

The decisions are being taken due to the current prevailing situation of the pandemic COVID-19 across the country.
