Quota In JIPMER For Candidates of Union Territory

By: Shriyanshi Jha on Apr 22, 2023

The previous MP, Mr. M Ramadass has requested the administration of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and research (Jipmer) that they should increase the quota for students belonging from the Union territory of Puducherry. This will increase the employment for students of Puducherry.

This provision of getting the reservation for students of Puducherry is being extendend for more than a year. There are 150 seats for MBBS students in the Puducherry campus and out of which 40 seats are reserved for the people belonging from the Union Territory.

There are 50 seats for the student of Karaikal and out of 50 there are 14 seats reserved in JIPMER for the students belonging from the Union Territory. Mr. Ramadass even said that the recruitment has been proposed for the non teaching as well as teaching officials.

JIPMER 2019

It has been announced that candidates performance in all India test and interview will be taken in consideration while selecting for the institute.

Jipmer has even said that they will provide reservations in different categories which are as follows:

  • Economically weaker sections (EWS)
  • Other backward classes (OBC)
  • Scheduled tribe (ST)
  • Scheduled castes (SC)

But still the worst part is that there has been no reservation announced for the candidates which are belonging from the Union Territory of Puducherry in the institute. This order has been very harsh on natives of the state as their rights have been denied and they have lacked over the opportunity of employment. This decision has deprived the native of Union territory from gaining social justice by not getting the regional reservation.

There will be candidates Infact local candidates which will be recruited through all – India test, as there is a percentage of jobs which are offered to the native ones.

  • In group A it is reserved for about 25%
  • In group B it is reserved for about 50%
  • In group C it is reserved for about 100%
