Preparing Topics Not Sufficient to Ace CAT 2016

By: Vikram on December 01, 2016

1)      Speed: Preparing topics will help one to solve questions, but not at the required pace. Solving questions with an extremely fast speed is required to score good and for that one needs to practice with a lot of techniques like rounding up of fractions and shortcuts for faster multiplication and division.

2)      Elimination: Sometimes eliminating options is easier than solving and getting to the right answer. This requires a lot of skill and intuition which comes with practice.

3)      Time Management: By looking at a particular question, candidates must get an idea of the time it will take them to get to the right answer. Knowing this would help them to gauge whether a question needs to be skipped or not. After all, it is all about right attempts.

4)      Minimum Rough Work: Writing and then solving questions takes time! Unless a problem requires calculation in detail, aspirants must aim to do calculations in their head. However, this required a lot of practice.

5)      Positive Approach: To have a positive attitude is the first step towards success. Preparing for CAT comes with challenges and self doubt, that an aspirant needs to overcome.

6)      Identify your strengths and weaknesses: To know what you're good at is great, but knowing your weak areas are crucial. Aspirants tend to ignore their weaknesses which creates a problem while attempting questions in the exam. Sincere efforts need to be put in to prepare for the weak topics.

7)      Do not rely on shortcuts: Knowing tricks and techniques that can help one solve problems faster is good, but relying too much on them is dangerous.

CAT 2016 is going to be conducted on 4th December and with less than two weeks left for the exam, aspirants need to prepare smart. During this period, it is recommended not to start preparing for topics never prepared before. Moreover, new study material and resources should not be picked two weeks before the exam.
