NEET 2018: HC directs CBSE to re-allot exam centres

By: Sakshi Awasthi on April 29, 2018

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has been directed by the Madras High Court to re-allot the examination centres to the aspirants who have been assigned NEET examination centres outside the state of Tamil Nadu. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET) for the academic year 2018 is scheduled to be conducted on May 6, 2018 and the examination centres were allotted by the Board earlier in the month of April. A petition was filed in the Madras High Court by S. Kalimuthu Mylavan stating that the candidates from the state of Tamil Nadu have been allotted examination centres outside the state. According to the petition, numerous candidates of Tamil Nadu were allotted examination centres in the state of Kerala, Rajasthan and other states.

JEE Advanced 2018 Format Changed

The Bench of Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh and M. Dhandapani issued the direction while disposing of a P.I.L. (Public Interest Litigation) petition filed by S. Kalimuthu Mylavan. The judges said, “We direct the CBSE that in respect of the candidates, who have been allotted centres in Kerala, Rajasthan or other faraway places or in other States, they shall be allotted centres adjacent to their place of residence or at least in Tamil Nadu at the earliest.”

The judges also mentioned that the re-allotment of the examination centres must be notified to the students on the official website of CBSE and through Newspaper Publications. The candidates who have been allotted examination centres outside their respective state can apply again for the re-allotment of the examination centre within the state. The Board has also increased the number of cities for examination to 150 this year, which was 84 till the academic year 2017.
