NEET exempted for Tamil Nadu Students

By: Shreyansh Shrivastava on August 21, 2017

NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test- Under Graduate) exam was introduced in the year 2013 replacing the AIPMT (All India PreMedical Test) and states medical entrance exams. NEET was introduced as a common entrance exam across the country to ensure uniformity in the selection procedure for the entrance in MBBS, BDS and other medical courses.

Since the inception of NEET, the NEET has been in a hot news and has been a debatable topic. Some states and their students had opposed the idea of an All India Common Entrance Exam for the admissions in undergraduate medical courses. The Tamil Nadu was the most prominent opposition since the beginning. Tamil Nadu government was demanding a total exemption from NEET, but the plea was rejected by the Central Government and the Court of Justice.

Among all these confusions, some private colleges had already conducted their private entrance exam for admissions in the undergraduate courses of the medical stream. Amid this confusion, the students who had cleared the NEET 2017 in Tamil Nadu after the NEET results, were in the apprehension and were waiting to take admission in the Medical Colleges as the delay and confusion were taking off their lots of time.

Taking into consideration the plight of the students, the Tamil Nadu government proposed to get the exemption from NEET for one year. On the state government's request and taking into account the concern of the students, the Central government agreed to provide the one-year exemption to Tamil Nadu for NEET exam. The Tamil Nadu government prepared an Ordinance and submitted to the Central Government. The Law Ministry finally approved the Ordinance of exemption for NEET 2017 to Tamil Nadu.

On the lines of Tamil Nadu, now Gujarat Government is also giving a thought to follow an Ordinance route to get an exemption from NEET 2017 for a year or so.
