The Union Education Ministry has rejected its earlier intended plan to conduct NEET examination two times every year and in online mode following the proposal forwarded by the Health Ministry. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, for medical and dental undergraduate programmes, is scheduled to be conducted in the month of May next year and will be in handwritten mode.
Earlier this year in the month of July, the Education Ministry had released a statement that recently established National Testing Agency (NTA) will lead NEET two times every year and the exam will be on the computer-based pattern like other major entrance examination of the country.
One of the news agency quoted an official as "The change in the NEET exam pattern as against the statement earlier, which will now be a single exam in pen-and-paper mode and in the same number of languages as has been conducted last year, is on the request of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, which wanted the same pattern followed last year to be maintained."
After the Education Ministry's declaration of the plan a month ago, the Health Ministry had shown it worries over holding NEET two times per year as it might put extra pressure on the students aspiring to take the examination. There were likewise worries that the examination taken online may put the applicants from rural areas into a disadvantageous position because of limitations in access to the internet.
A declaration by the Education Ministry said that registration for the NEET 2019 will start on November 1 and the exam will be conducted on May 5, 2019.
