NEET Exam- 473 Seats Vacant in MBBS Courses

The Minister of State (Health & Family Welfare), Ashwini Kumar Choubey stated in a written reply in the Lok Sabha that there are 473 seats vacant in MBBS courses for the Academic Year 2017-18. The minister told this to the Parliament on March 23, 2018.

He also stated that the designated authority responsible for conducting Counselling for admission to MBBS courses is the Directorate General of Health Services which conducts Counselling for 15% of the All India Quota seats of the contributing states and All MBBS Seats of Medical Educational Institution of the Central Government Universities according to the Act of Parliament and the Deemed Universities. He further stated that the Counselling of the remaining seats lies with respective States and Union Territories Government.

He also added that the All India Quota seats (15%) will be deemed to be converted into State quota seats after remaining vacant till the last date of joining. These State Quota Seats will be filled by the respective States.

He also said that the vacant seats could not be permitted to be filled by the NEET Qualifiers before NEET 2018. According to him the process of admission to the medical courses is through a common counselling which is to be completed in accordance with the statutory time schedule. Hence, no admission can be allowed to the MBBS courses after August 31, 2017 for the Academic year 2017-18.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test i.e. NEET 2018 is an Entrance Examination for the students who aspire to get admission in Under Graduate Degree Medical courses i.e. MBBS or Dental courses i.e. BDS. The Examination is conducted by CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education). This year NEET 2018 will be conducted on May 6, 2018. The application form for NEET 2018 was released from February 8 till March 12 and the admit cards will be released on the official website of NEET i.e. https://cbseneet.nic.in in the first week of April
