NEET Counselling Date Extended for Punjab & Haryana

The Supreme Court has extended the Counselling deadline for the admission to MBBS and BDS through National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET 2017) till September 7. The court announced the extension in Punjab & Haryana after both the states missed the deadline 31^st August during the violence & curfew after the conviction of Sirsa, Haryana based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sing Insaan.

The attorney general KK Venugopal submitted a plea in the apex court to extend the deadline citing the law and order problem and other disturbances in the Haryana and Punjab states as the main reason behind the non-conduction of NEET counselling. The same argument was advanced by Alok Sangwan, additional advocate general for Haryana.

Agreeing with the contentions, The deadline for the NEET 2017 Counselling has been extended by apex court but added a note that The extension is only for Punjab & Haryana. States other than these two wouldn't get the benefit of the extension.

Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, had postponed the counselling for Punjab, conducted the third round of counselling on 31^st August for 620 seats of BDS and 246 seats of MBBS. The university has 7 seats left for MBBS and 238 seats for BDS. Physical Counselling will be conducted for MBBS and BDS seats on September 4 and September 6 respectively.
