NEET 2018: CBSE not to decide Eligibility Criteria

By: R Chandrakala on Feb 28, 2018

After receiving a lot of complaints from aspirants, the Central Board of Secondary Education has made it clear they would be conducting the NEET Examination only and not be deciding the eligibility criteria for the same.Students have had an issue with the fact that the candidates who have pursued schooling through National Institute of Open Learning/ State Open School or who have studied Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject are ineligible to appear for the same. The Board has added that if students have or face any issue, they should approach Medical Council of India and submit their grievances.

Candidates now would be required to read the information bulletin and FAQs on the NEET Website prior to sending grievances to the Board in any other form, as per the Board in an advisory. The NEET UG Registration would be concluding on March 9, 2018. The examination would be conducted on May 6 in 11 Languages - English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Oriya, Bengali, Assamese, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. NEET UG is conducted for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses. There is no cap fixed for the number of attempts.

Eligibility

Aspirants should have passed Grade 12 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English on an individual basis. The candidates must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology at the qualifying examination.

National Testing Agency would be conducting NEET

National Testing Agency, an autonomous and self-sustainable organization would be set up by the Center to conduct NEET in the future. This decision had been taken after CBSE conveyed its inhibitions to the HRD Ministry about conducting examinations in the future, citing that they are overburdened.

The NEET Application Form was released on February 8, 2018, which can be filled only in an online mode. About 11 Lakh registrations were received by CBSE for 90,000 MBBS/BDS Seats that were offered through NEET Examination. Candidates wishing to get admission in MBBS, BDS or AYUSH courses would be required to register for the Examination.

The NEET Application Fee details are as follows:

  • General and OBC - INR 1400
  • SC/ST/PH - INR 750

NEET Application can be submitted in both an online and offline mode. Candidates would be required to choose the following modes of payment - Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking.
