NEET Candidates tensed as Centre acts against 150 Medical Colleges

The candidates who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test on May 6, 2018, are tensed as the affiliation renewal application of the 82 Medical Colleges has been rejected by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has also declined the proposal to authorize 68 new Medical Colleges.

The Medical Council of India rejected the applications of these colleges last months which is now being approved by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The action will reduce almost 15,000 medical seats in India. Out of which, 10,000 seats are in existing colleges.

The owners of the existing medical colleges believe that it could be difficult for the existing students also who are studying in the first and second year of medical courses. An investment of nearly Rs. 20 Thousand Crores are on the stake. The management of the private medical colleges has accused the Medical Council of India of being responsible for the action. Some of the owners have also moved to the court seeking justice against the action taken by the MCI. In response to the petition, the MCI has filed an SLP.

This is the first time that the Medical Council of India has rejected the affiliation application at such a large scale. Due to which many private colleges are doubting some hidden agenda behind the action.
