Major Announcement on JEE Main 2021 Minimum Eligibility for Admission to IITs, NITs, and IIITs

JEE Main Eligibility 2021 – The Ministry of Education has decided to waive off the minimum percentage criterion for 12th class board students for the academic year 2021-22. Currently, the minimum percentage of marks for admission to IITs, NITs, and other institutes via JEE Main Exam is 75%. The Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank' made this announcement on Twitter. He also confirmed that the decision has been taken alongside the other decisions taken earlier for IIT JEE Advanced. This has turned out to be a great relief for students preparing for JEE Main Exam scheduled to be conducted during four sessions i.e. February, March, April, and May.

Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank' tweeted:

“Considering the decision taken for IIT JEE (Advanced), it has been decided to waive off the 75 per cent marks eligibility criteria under JEE (Main) for the next academic year 2021-2022”.

The union education minister also confirmed that this decision taken by him will remain applicable with respect to the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) where admissions are based on candidates' performance in JEE Main Exam.

JEE Advanced 2021 is scheduled to be conducted on 3rd July 2021.

About JEE MainJEE Main Exam is conducted for admission to the engineering institutes across the country and considered a qualifying exam for writing JEE Advanced Exam. Before the announcement, one of the eligibility criteria was to secure a minimum of 75% marks in 12th class board examination.

The decision has been taken based on JEE Main Aspirants' requests flooded on Twitter. These requests were primarily to remove the minimum percentage criterion.

As per the new changes brought in JEE Main Exam, the exam will be conducted four times a year i.e. February, March, April, and May, and it will be conducted in as many as 13 languages. The National Testing Agency, NTA, which is the conducting authority of JEE Main Exam will conduct the exam with the first round scheduled from 23rd February 2021 to 26th February 2021.
