Madras NEET 2nd Counseling Results Not Releasing anytime soon!

By: Anjali Hans on July 13, 2018

The 2nd Round of Seat Allotment results of Madras NEET exam were supposed to be released on July 12, 2018 by the Medical Council Committee (MCC), which apparently have been delayed due to Madras High Court orders. The official website read, “in compliance of the directions of High Court of Madras, Madurai, the online undergraduate counseling for the session: 2018 including the declaration of second round result will be kept in abeyance till further orders.”

This whole shift in the proceedings is due to the orders of Madras High Court who asked CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) to allocate 196 grace marks, which counts 4 marks each for 49 questions, to all those students who appeared for the NEET exam in Tamil in 2018. It was the Court's verdict to formulate a new list of candidates within a time span of 2 weeks, and thereby, asked to put the 2nd counseling results on hold.

It is also anticipated that CBSE might take this matter to the Honorable Supreme Court by standing against the Madras High Court's decision. This conflict between the High Court and CBSE has put the NEET authorities in a dilemma. The Secretary of NEET selection committee, Dr G Selvarajan directed his concern by admitting that their further actions will be based on the directions from CBSE. He even mentioned that admission to management quota seats which were supposed to commence from July 16, now stands cancelled.

July 9 was the date when the choice filling and locking process began for the 2nd phase of NEET counseling. Candidates will be unable to get any other option and could not even leave or resign the seat, once it is allotted.

The candidates who will be allotted seats in the second counseling round have to report at the respective institutes from July 13-22. And, the remaining seats will be offered by the state quota by July 23, 2018. A final session of counseling will be conducted by MCC on Aug 10-11. However, those candidates who do not get seat after the 2nd round, they don't have to re-register or re-pay for the 3rd round, instead a new registration facility will be made available for them. It processes by nullifying the candidates' earlier choices made for the second round and new choices will have to be formed for the consecutive third round. Once allotted a seat, candidates will have to submit INR 10,000 as security fee within a time of 2 days, right after the results are out.
