JEE Main 2018 Question Paper: A Detailed Analysis

JEE Main 2018 examination was conducted on April 8, 2018 by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for Paper-Pen mode. This year nearly 12 lakh candidates applied for this entrance examination out of which only 2.24 lakh candidates will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced entrance examination which is scheduled to be conducted on May 20, 2018.

JEE Main is a national level engineering entrance examination, conducted for admissions in numerous engineering colleges and institutes across the country including IITs, IIITs and NITs. The number of aspirants has decreased this year for the JEE Main 2018 examination, as last year nearly 13 lakh candidates appeared for this examination. JEE Main 2018 was held across 258 centres whereas last year the same was held across 113 centres.

There have been numerous assertions regarding the difficulty level of this year's JEE Main Question Paper. Few students claim that physics paper was the most difficult whereas numerous students stated that the Mathematics examination was the lengthiest. Subject-wise Paper analysis:

  • Chemistry- Chemistry Paper was the easiest paper among all the three papers. The questions comprised a mix of theory and calculations. The Chemistry section was lengthy as compared to the other sections. This section comprised of 14 questions from 12th standard syllabus whereas 16 questions were from the 11th standard syllabus. There were 17 moderate questions, 10 easy questions and merely 3 difficult questions. The questions from Inorganic Chemistry were easier as compared to Physical Chemistry being more numerical based and Organic Chemistry being the most difficult among them.
  • Physics- This year the Physics question paper was the toughest among all three. This section was an amalgamation of theory and calculative questions. It comprised of 17 questions from the 12th standard syllabus and 13 questions from 11th standard syllabus with maximum questions from Mechanics and Electrostatics.  This section was not lengthy and included 20 moderate questions, 6 easy questions, and 4 difficult questions.
  • Mathematics- The Mathematics Question Paper was the easiest among the all the three paper. Most of the questions in this section were calculative and comprised of 10 questions from the 12th standard syllabus and 20 questions from the 11th standard syllabus. The paper carried 13 easy questions, 14 moderate questions and merely 3 difficult questions. A major section of this paper was from Calculus.

JEE Main 2018 Computer Based Examination is scheduled to be conducted on April 15 & April 16, 2018. The answer key for both the modes will be released between April 24 to April 27, 2018 on the official website of JEE Main i.e. www.jeemain.nic.in. The candidates unsatisfied with the responses can challenge it by filling the online application and paying Rs. 1000/- for each question.
