JEE Main 2018: Examination Centers increased, Maharashtra highest among all 258

By: R Chandrakala on Apr 10, 2018

The Central Board of Secondary Education has doubled up the count of examination centers for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main 2018) to help candidates from smaller cities to find examination centers close to their homes. The number of cities where the examination would be held in this year has been increased to 258 from 113 in the previous year.

This number had been increased despite a reduction in registrations over the past four years. About 11.6 Lakh students had registered for the examination less by 50,000 in comparison in the previous year. Given the cases of numerous students traveling over the length and the breadth of the country, increase in the number of cities would be benefitting them.

An international examination center has further been added in Qatar, taking the count of total count of cities outside India to 10. The other international cities that have JEE Main examination centers are Colombo, Singapore, Dubai, Bahrain, Muscat, Riyadh, Qatar, Sharjah and Dhaka.

In India, the maximum number of examination cities are in Maharashtra (31), followed consecutively by Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh with 18 centers and Tamil Nadu with a count of 17

About 9.2 Lakh students would be appearing for the pen-paper examination and the remaining 2.4 Lakh students have opted to give JEE Main examination in an online mode. The online version of the examination would be held on April 15 and 16, while the pen and paper based examination would be held on April 8, 2018.

While the registration trend over a period of five years has averaged to about 12-13 Lakh applicants, availability of additional examination centers would help a lot of students traveling from smaller towns and cities to give the examination effortlessly.

CBSE is also required to ensure that the examination centers are well-equipped to conduct the JEE Main Examination. as students in a stressed state would not be able to give the JEE Main Examination. Students traveling miles in order to be able to give the JEE Main would also be spared the time and costs of finding an additional accommodation.

Even though the pattern and the difficulty level of JEE Main is same for both online and offline modes, the comfort level of the candidate's matter. Computer-based testing is another way of conducting the examination, wherein performance counts on the basis of the practice method of the candidates.

Through JEE Main 2018, candidates would not get admission only in NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and SFIs, the candidates would further be shortlisted for JEE Advanced 2018 examination.

All the best for JEE Main!
