Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made quite a significance in current scenario and it's quite evident with the growing demand of the technology. Keeping the necessity in mind IIT Hyderabad has decided to launch a full-fledged B.Tech degree program in AI from this academic session. Admission in the mentioned course will be based on the scores of JEE Advanced. It is important to note that as the first session of JEE Mains 2019 is already over candidates needs to all gear for the JEE Advanced 2019.

IIT Hyderabad became the first institute in India to introduce B.Tech degree programme in Artificial intelligence and the third in the world to offer fill fledged B.Tech degree programme in AI after Carnegie Mellon University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (US). In the first batch of the programme, only 20 students will be enrolled as per the latest information available.

Considering the importance of the course, students enrolled in other B.Tech programs like mechanical or chemical engineering will also get a chance to pursue a minor in AI from the coming academic year. The institute also witnessed one of the productive collaborations between departments of liberal arts and faculty from Computer Science and Electrical Engineering to start minor in AI and Humanity.
B.Tech in AI objectives:
-
The major objective of the programme is to produce professionals with sound knowledge of basi9c theory and applied field of Artificial Intelligence as well as machine learning.
-
To fulfill the ever increasing needs of industries and academic institutions globally by skilled engineers in the developing field of AI and Machine Learning.
Why B.Tech in AI is unique?
-
B. Tech programme in AI at IIT Hyderabad is very unique as it focuses on providing a comprehensive approach of the subject to its students.
-
The course aims to open the doors of AI into the fields of healthcare, smart mobility, agriculture, and others.
-
The program is specially designed and comprised of data from the Computer Science Department, Robotics from Mechanical Engineering Department, Signal Processing from Electrical Engineering Department and Mathematical Foundations.
-
One of the key component of the B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence is to apply the technology in areas of privacy of data, bias and other related areas.
UB Desai, current director of IIT Hyderabad, has addressed the media recently and said “The basic aim is to create a complete ecosystem for Artificial Intelligence Academics and Research at IIT Hyderabad. This involves B.Tech, M Tech and different minor programs in AI. Moreover, the R&D will be strongly entwined with academics.”
“AI solutions are particularly promising for India given the availability of a large corpus of data where it can have a major positive impact on several critical domains such as healthcare, crop and soil management, weather prediction, surveillance and security, defense and other related fields,” said Sumohana Channappayya (Dean) on giving an insight about the course. She further added that “However, the demand for professionals trained in this area far exceeds the current supply. The B.Tech programme in AI is a step in the direction of addressing this highly skewed demand-supply scenario.”
Potential of AI to improve human lives are tremendous and adding this as a course is one of the major steps by IIT Hyderabad towards modern advanced education. The programme will ensure to train students with the fundamentals of computer science, Machine, and AI.
