JEE Advanced 2018: 2.24 Lakh Students would qualify for JEE Advanced

By: R Chandrakala on October 11, 2017

The Joint Admission Board increased the number of seats for JEE Advanced to be conducted in the month of May 2018.  The official website has specified that the candidates must be among the top 2.24 Lakh students by scoring positive marks in the JEE Main 2018. Previously about 2.2 Lakh students were eligible for the JEE Advanced Examination.

The reasons for increasing the number of seats has been explained as below:

  1.  IIT Vacancies would be avoided.
  2. The courses in IIT which are unpopular are usually tough getting filled which exists at various institutes at Bombay, Delhi and Kharagpur.
  3. Many IITs would be increasing their intake capacity this year the final number of which would be revealed later.

IIT Kanpur would be convening JEE Advanced 2018.

The features of JEE Advanced have been highlighted as below:

  1. The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) would be conducted by IITs.
  2. The JEE Advanced examination would be scheduled on May 20, 2018.
  3. The JEE Advanced 2018 examination would be conducted in a complete online mode.
  4. Paper 1 and Paper 2 of JEE Advanced would be for a time duration of 3 hours each and would be held in two sessions. Both the papers would be mandatory for candidates.

Selection procedure for JEE Advanced

The performance of the candidate would solely determine the basis of admission to the Bachelor's degree, Master and Dual Degree Programmes (10+2) in all the IITs.

This is a piece of good news for students as 4000 additional aspirants would be made eligible to appear for Joint Entrance Examination Advanced in May 2018. While the decision for an increase has been taken, the Board is yet to reveal the count of the seats.

Some of them believe that this step has been exercised with the view of the intake capacity that has been increased in 22 IITs and the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. In the previous session, out of about 10,000+ seats, 120 seats were unclaimed as against 96 in the session previous to that. In the event of the same, Ministry of Human Resource Development has asked the IITs to find out ways for the same by suggesting measures to the extent of scrapping unpopular courses.

JEE Advanced would be conducted by IIT Kanpur on May 20, 2018. Candidates who want to be eligible for the same should be among the top 2.2 Lakh students by scoring positive marks in Paper 1 of JEE Main 2018.
