JEE Advanced 2019: No Admission Through NTA Exam

By: Sakshi Awasthi on May 28, 2018

Due to the growing rift between the centre and the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the institutes have refused to change their entrance examination according to NTA. The Government is anticipating towards conducting engineering entrance examination through NTA but the IITs wish to carry the engineering entrance through JEE Advanced examination.

NTA known as National Testing Agency is the new authorized Board responsible for conducting all those examinations which the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) used to conduct for higher education including JEE Main, NEET, UGC NET etc. The Agency is being developed to free the CBSE from entrance examinations so that the board can focus on conducting the Board examination and can cornerstone the education at school level. The Government is also planning to later shift the examinations conducted by AICTE such as CMAT and GPAT under NTA.

However, the Indian Institutes of Technology have refused the Government's demand for the third time. Earlier the Institutes refused to the Government's suggestions regarding an increase in the number of seats for bachelor's courses and decreasing the difficulty level of entrance examination.

There have been different opinions regarding the examination conducting Board for JEE Advanced and CAT examination as both the exams are conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology and Indian Institutes of Management respectively. However, no such decision has been taken yet and the centre has written to the IITs seeking their opinion on the issue.

The officials at IITs believe that JEE Advanced examination is one of the largest entrance examinations in the world. Hence, IITs are against providing admissions through an entrance examination conducted by NTA. They believe that the experts from IITs only should conduct the entrance examination which includes setting the question papers, checking the papers and proceeding admissions.

The Institute also has concerns regarding the paper leak. They believe that when external agencies conduct the examinations, there are chances of such incidents.
