JEE Advanced 2018: A Detailed Paper Analysis

JEE Advanced 2018 examination was successfully conducted yesterday i.e. on May 20, at various examination centres across the country. Nearly 2.31 Lakh candidates registered for JEE Advanced this year, out of which 2.2 Lakh candidates appeared for the exam. The official JEE Advanced Answer Key is expected to be released on May 29, on the official website of JEE Advanced.

JEE Advanced 2018 Result is scheduled to be released on June 10, 2018 at 10 AM.

Students Reaction:

According to the students who appeared for JEE Advanced 2018 examination, the Paper 2 was comparatively tough than Paper 1. The candidates also said that the Mathematics section was most difficult in Paper2, whereas in Paper 1 Physics section was the most difficult.

JEE Advanced 2018 Paper 2 Analysis-

  • The Time Duration for Paper 2 was 180 minutes.
  • The Paper 2 comprised of a total number of54 questions which carried a total sum of 180 marks
  • ThePaper 2 carried 3 parts i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics where each part carried 60 marks.
  • Each part was further sub-divided into 3 sections carrying 24 marks, 24 marks and 12 marks respectively.
  • Section 1 of Paper 2 comprised of 6 questions with 4 options each. There could be more than one correct option for each question. Marking Scheme: The candidate would be rewarded with additional 4 marks if all the options were correct and additional 1 mark for each correct answer. 2 marks will be deducted in case of an incorrect answer.
  • Section 2 of Paper 2 comprised of 8 questions. The candidate was required to round off the correct numerical value to second decimal place. Marking Scheme: The candidate would be rewarded with additional 3 marks for marking the correct option and there would be no negative marking in this section.
  • Section 3 of Paper 2 comprised of 4 questions, containing matching list i.e. List I and List II and only one of the 4 options were correct. Marking Scheme: The candidate would be rewarded with additional 3 marks for marking the correct option and one mark would be deducted in case of an incorrect answer.

Experts Feedback on Paper 2:

The Mathematics was the toughest part in JEE Advanced Paper 2, whereas the Physics and Chemistry were comparatively easy. The Paper involved more integral questions and interlinking questions than last year JEE Advanced question paper. The expected cut off is likely to fall between 120 to 130.

JEE Advanced 2018 Paper 1 Analysis-

  • The Time Duration for Paper 1 was 180 minutes.
  • The Paper 1 comprised of a total number of 54 questions which carried a total sum of 180 marks. 
  • The Paper 1 carried 3 parts i.e. Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics where each section carried 60 marks.
  • The Section 1 of Paper 1 comprised of 6 questions.   • The Section 3 of Paper 1 comprised of 2 paragraphs with 4 options each. Marking Scheme: The candidate would be rewarded with additional 4 marks for marking the correct answer and 1 mark will be deducted for incorrect answer.

Experts Feedback on Paper 1:

According to the experts, the Mathematics and Chemistry section was easier as compared to Physics in JEE Advanced 2018 Paper 1. The Paper 1 was moderately difficult with maximum questions based on Class 12th syllabus.
