JEE Main 2020 – A group of four parents recently filed a petition at the Supreme Court against the Central Board of Secondary Education for holding the exam amidst the outbreak of pandemic COVID-19 and pleaded to cancel the scheduled examination. The apex court has now given and order for the same, but it hasn’t been disclosed yet. The Human Resource Development Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, was expected to update the aspirants of JEE Main and other students about if the examination will be conducted, postponed, or canceled. The exams CBSE Board, JEE Main, and NEET are scheduled to be conducted in the month of July 2020 and the number of cases of people getting infected by Coronavirus is increasing rapidly.
The minister assured candidates that they would be updated soon about this. The board had already informed the court that they would declare their decision before 23rd June 2020.
Meetings Conducted by HRD Ministry
In order to come to a conclusion as soon as possible, the HRD minister Ramesh Pokhiryal ‘Nishank’ held a review meeting with the officials of CBSE, National Testing Agency (NTA), and the School Education and Literacy Department of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. All that they discussed in the meeting was new and revised examination schedule and reopening of schools. The minister also assured all that the main objective of conducting this review meeting was to keep everyone’s safety and security a priority.
Can CBSE Board Exams Be Canceled?
As we all are aware that CBSE already canceled examinations in its 250 off schools abroad in the past, the petition also included that the same should also be done across the country in order to prevent the spread of Coronavirus amongst students and hence their respective families. The parents also suggested that the students appearing in CBSE Board exams could be marked based on the marks obtained by them in their internal examinations. The governments of Maharashtra, Odisha, and Delhi have even requested the Ministry of Human Resource Development to cancel the scheduled examinations.
Is It Even Possible to Cancel JEE Main and NEET Exams?
JEE Main and NEET Exams are, unlike CBSE Board, two most sought after entrance examinations conducted for admission to engineering and medical programs respectively. Career of lakhs of students depends on these examinations and these exams hold high importance for admission to engineering and medical colleges across the country.
The conducting body of JEE Main and NEET Exams, National Testing Agency, is yet to decide.
