IIM- Ranchi Admission Criteria 2016

By: Anshika on August 30, 2016

Changes when compared to last year

  • The minimum CAT 2015 overall .percentile requirement has been reduced for differently abled (DA) candidate from 70 percentile to 65 percentile.

  • The minimum CAT 2015 sectional percentile requirement has been increased for OBC NC candidates from 63 percentile to 72 percentile.

  • The minimum CAT 2015 sectional percentile requirement has been increased for Gen candidates from 70 percentile to 80 percentile.

  • The weightage for academic profile of a candidate has been increased in final selection process from 8% to 15%

  • The weightage for WAT has been reduced from 20% to 10%.
  • The weightage for academic diversity has been increased from 2% to 5%. The weightage for graduation percentage has been increased from 0% to 5%.

Admission Process:

The admission process for the PGP program comprises of following stages.

  1. Shortlisting candidates for WAT/GD//PI round.
  2. Final Selection of candidates post WAT/GD/PI round

During the first stage, initially a pool of candidates who satisfy the following minimum CAT 2015 percentiles are considered.

Category of Candidate Sectional Percentile Overall Percentile
General 80 90
NC-OBC 72 81
SC 60 75
ST 50 65
DAP 50 65

Among the pool of candidates who meet the above mentioned percentiles, a list of candidates would be called for attending Written ability test (WAT) and Personal Interview depending on their performance in CAT.

One point to be noted here is that for shortlisting candidates for WAT/PI rounds IIM Ranchi is considering only the CAT performance of a candidate. This goes on to show that performing well in CAT 2015 would go a long way in securing a WAT/PI call from this premier B-school.

The following are the weightages that would be considered during the final selection of candidates

Component Maximum Weight
CAT score 30.00%
WAT 10.00%
Personal Interview 30.00%
SSC 5.00%
HSC/12 5.00%
Graduation 5.00%
Work Experience 5.00%
Gender Diversity 5.00%
Academic Diversity 5.00%

Weightage for work experience

Months 6 or Less 06-11 12-17 18-23 24-29 30-35 36 or more
Score 0 1 3 5 4 3 2

Weightage for academics

Qualification 85% or above 80% to 85% 75% to 80% 70 to 75% 65% to 70% less than 65%
SSC 5 4 3 2 1 0
HSC 5 4 3 2 1 0
GRADUATION 5 4 3 2 1 0

To conclude, one important observation about this year's selection process is that the total weightage for parameters which are controllable ( CAT,WAT and PI ) in the final selection stage has been kept at 70%. This ensures that the applicants, who do not have a good academic profile or work experience can still aspire to join IIM Ranchi by preparing well for CAT 2015, WAT and PI rounds.
