IIM- Ahmedabad Admission Criteria 2016

As compared to last year, IIM- A has made some changes in its admission criteria. The changes are as follows -

    - Inclusion of academics in shortlisting criteria, i.e., in Composite Score
    - Inclusion of category-wise minimum cut-off percentages for Bachelor's examination


1. Shortlisting and Selection criteria -

Preliminary Screening - The candidates must clear the minimum percentiles given in the table below to be considered for subsequent stages -

Application Rating is the sum of rating scores (A, B, C) based on percentages obtained in 10th standard, 12th standard and bachelor's.

AR = A + B + C

Normalized AR = AR / Avg. Of Top-50 AR scores in the corresponding AC

Note -

AC - 1 includes Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Science, Fisheries, Forestry, Food Technology, Horticulture, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Science, Veterinary Science
AC - 2 includes Arts, Humanities, Law, Education, Rural Studies
AC - 3 includes Commerce, Economics, Hotel Management, Management
AC - 4 includes Agricultural Engineering, Architecture, Engineering
AC - 5 includes all disciplines not included in other categories
AC - 6 includes Medicine
AC - 7 includes Chartered Accountancy, Cost and Works Accountancy, Company Secretaryship

2.Shortlisting for Academic Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview (PI) -

The shortlisting is done in two ways -

(a) Selection of academically exceptional performers across all categories -

Top 100 candidates or top 1% of each of the seven categories AC - 1 to 7, whichever is less, will be shortlisted for AWT and PI on the basis of Composite Score (CS), subject to fulfilling the below mentioned criteria -

(i) Overall %ile >=90, Section-wise in QA, DILR, VRC >=80

(ii) Avg. Of 10th and 12th Std. >= 80 (Science), 77 (Commerce), 75 (Arts/Humanities)

(iii) Minimum Bachelor's % -

Cut-off % 74 68 71 78 73 66 59

CS = 0.3 (Normalized AR Score) + 0.7 (Normalized overall CAT score)

(b) Category-wise selection* -

After removing the candidates selected via process (a), the additional number of applicants will be shortlisted based on the following criteria -

CS = 0.3 (Normalized AR Score) + 0.7 (Normalized overall CAT score)

3.Final Selection -

Selection at this stage is based on the Final Composite Score (FCS) within each category, as per the mandated reservation policy -

FCS = 0.4 (Normalized PI Score) + 0.1 (Normalized AWT Score) + 0.5 (CS)

Overall, the focus on academics is back in IIM A's admission process, while CAT, AWT and PI still play the dominant role, with a combined weightage of 85% amongst themselves.
