JEE Main 2020 – Another breaking news which made to the headlines of various news channels is the postponement of JEE Main 2020 Examination. The decision of conducting JEE Main and NEET UG exam was pending after the order released by the Supreme Court stating cancelation of CBSE Board Exams. The chances of JEE Main exam and NEET UG being postponed were quite high when CBSE Board exam got delayed. The Human Resource Development Ministry came up with a decision regarding JEE Main on Friday. A committee of experts not only postponed JEE Main and NEET UG Exams but also felt that it was not convenient to conduct the engineering and medical entrance exams amidst the current pandemic COVID-19 across the country.

JEE Main 2020 has now been rescheduled to be held from 1st September 2020 to 6th September 2020.

JEE Main Aspirants along with their parents have been signing several online petitions on social media campaigns and requesting the the examination conducting authorities and the government to consider their plea of postponing the most sought after engineering and medical entrance examinations.

JEE Main 2020

JEE Main 2020 Postponed

There are around 1 million candidates who registered themselves for JEE Main Exam and almost 1.6 million candidates who registered for the medical exam NEET UG. The exams were previously scheduled to be conducted from 18th July 2020 to 23rd July 2020 while NEET-UG was rescheduled to be held on 26th July 2020. In the view of rapidly spreading Coronavirus pandemic, students from across the country and their parents have been demanding the delay of such exams.

The chief of National Testing Agency (NTA), Vineet Joshi was sure that postponement of these exams was unavoidable as most of the examination centres are situated in containment zones and conducting of the exams would only increase the chances of students getting infected by COVID-19.

This delay would affect the academic calendar of JEE Main and NEET UG Exams. The sequence of admission procedure will be disturbed and shortlisted candidates will be able to join classes by November end week or December first week.

In order to prevent students from coming in contact with Coronavirus and hence prevent the spread of the virus, the engineering and the medical examination conducting authority (NTA) first postponed the exams on 5th May 2020.  NEET UG was scheduled to be conducted on 26th July 2020 and JEE Main was scheduled to be conducted from 18th July 2020 to 23rd July 2020.

JEE Advanced 2020 has now been rescheduled to be conducted on 27th September 2020.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) appreciated the decision taken by the Center for delaying JEE Main and NEET UG Exams in the wake of COVID-19.

“NSUI welcomes the government’s decision of postponing the NEET-JEE examination. From the very start, NSUI has been considerate with their demand for postponing the examination” stated the letter issued by NSUI National President Neeraj Kundan.

“The adversity of the situation demanded postponement. NSUI started twitter trends, they went to the HRD (Human Resource Development) Ministry’s place and did protests over there, NSUI issued a memorandum and also submitted the same in hand to the HRD minister’s officials. NSUI launched an online petition. After all these continuous efforts, finally, there is the victory,” the letter read.
