CLAT 2018: A Detailed Paper Analysis

CLAT 2018 examination also known as Common Law Admission Test was successfully conducted on May 13, 2018 by National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS Kochi). The examination was conducted in the afternoon shift i.e. from 3 PM to 5 PM. The CLAT 2018 Result is expected to be released on May 31, 2018. The CLAT aspirants are quite relaxed as the question paper was comparatively easy. The CLAT 2018 examination pattern was quite alike last year. However, major changes could be observed in General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics.

CLAT question paper comprised of total 200 Questions covering 5 topics i.e. English, General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude.

There will be a negative marking for each wrong answer and one-fourth of a mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

English:

  • The English section was between easy to moderately difficult this year.
  • One long RC Passage with 10 Questions
  • One short RC Passage with 2 very easy questions
  • 4 Questions on Idioms
  • 6 Questions on Cloze Test
  • 3 Easy Questions on Synonyms
  • 3 Easy ‘Correcting the sentences' Questions
  • Topics like Paraphrasing, Use of Correct Words etc. were missing in this section
  • Good Attempt- An attempt of 35 questions out of 40 can be considered good.
  • Expected Score- 32

General Knowledge and Current Affairs:

  • The General Knowledge section was comparatively tougher this year as compared to the previous year
  • Current Affairs- 10 Questions on National Issues (Easy) & 5 Questions on International Issues (Moderately Difficult)
  • Sports- 6 Questions on Sports which were moderately difficult
  • Books & Authors- 3 questions and were quite easy
  • Awards- 5 very easy Questions
  • Science & Technology- 3 Questions which were extremely difficult
  • Good Attempt- An attempt of 36 Questions out of 50 can be considered a Good attempt
  • Expected Score- 33-34

Elementary Mathematics:

  • The Elementary Mathematics Section was the most difficult section in CLAT 2018.
  • This section comprised of lengthy calculations
  • The entire syllabus was covered in 20 questions. Questions were asked from Probability, Time & Work, Time-Speed-Distance, Profit & Loss, Discount, Percentage, Geometry and Simplification.
  • Good Attempt- An attempt of 12 Questions out of 20 can be considered a good attempt
  • Expected Score- 10

Logical Reasoning:

  • This section of CLAT 2018 was moderately difficult
  • It involved many questions from Analytical Reasoning
  • Questions related to Directions, Blood Relations, Series, Coding & Decoding were asked. Questions on Syllogism were easiest in this section
  • Good Attempt- An attempt of 34 Questions out of 40 can be considered a good attempt
  • Expected Score- 32

Legal Aptitude:

  • The Legal Aptitude section was comparatively easy this year
  • Questions- 17 Questions on Legal Knowledge, 4 Questions on Statement Assumption & 1 Question on Reasoning Assertion
  • Topics such as Intellectual Property, Family Law and International Law were missing from this section.
  • Good Attempt- An attempt of 43 Questions out of 50 can be considered a good attempt.
  • Expected Score- 39

CLAT 2018 Expected Cut Off:

There are chances that CLAT 2018 Cut Off may fall this year and the expected cut off can fall between 127 to 132. A detailed information about the expected cut off will better after the release of official answer key.
