CAT Registers the Highest Count of Women Candidates in 5 years

The number of women candidates registering for Common Admission Test that would be conducted by IIM has increased from 76,000 to over 78000 in 2017. About 31 candidates belonging to the Transgender category have applied for the exam that would be held on November 26, 2017, across 144 cities. The total count of candidates who have registered for the CAT exam was 2.32 Lakh which was on an overall basis same as the previous year.

As visible, there has been an increase in the women candidates by a rate of 1.16% in comparison to last year. In 2015, there was a huge increase of women candidates of about 10,000 from a count of an estimated count of 59,000. As per the official notification on the website, CAT Admit cards were released on October 25, 2017. The CAT registration window was increased by 5 days which brought in additional applicant intake of 20,000. 

The Common Admission Test, which is the gateway to the MBA Admissions in about 19 IIMs and 150 other institutes, CAT would be held on November 26, in two sessions. The Common Admission Test would be conducted across 140 cities. Candidates would be given the option of selecting their 4 test centers in the order of preference.Test Cities and Exam Centers have been assigned to the candidates once the CAT Registration procedure got completed. 

Common Admission Test would be having the same format as in the previous years. It would be a Computer Based Examination and have 3 sections that would be of 30 minutes duration each. There would be 34 questions in the Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension section apart from the Quantitative Ability being of 102 marks each.  Data Interpretation section would having 32 questions and would carry 96 marks. CAT scorecard would be made available on the Common Admission test official website.

The CAT result would be most likely to be declared in the second week of January in the year 2018. The tutorials to understand the CAT Exam format was available since the second week of October 2017. The mock test was released on the CAT Official website in the last week of October 2017. 

IIM Lucknow would be the convenor of the CAT exam this year. IIM Lucknow has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Axis Bank by means of which all the women candidates would be getting into a one year Executive MBA course (International Programme in Management for Executives) programme would be given an option to join Axis Bank on completing their degree from IIM Lucknow. 

Axis Bank has stated that beyond mere placements, initiatives like culture, leadership and inclusiveness qualities are sought to be developed in women entering managerial roles by way of this course. WE Lead is the title of this initiative, which is sought to be aimed at developing and nurturing managerial talent in women.
