Some important tips can help the candidates to prepare well for the IBPS Clerk exam. Aspirants are expected to focus on what IBPS Clerk syllabus and topics consist of. Here is a section-wise list of tips for all the examinees.

General tips for cracking the exam:

  • Make a good plan for studies. Understand about the syllabus and prepare for the weaker sections.
  • Update yourself on current affairs on a regular basis.
  • Practice various topics available and do well.
  • General Knowledge would help you gain good marks and push your overall score.
  • Time management is crucial from exam point of view. Manage the time well so as to utilize the resources in a productive way.
  • Keep trying online mock tests to judge yourself and your knowledge to work on your inefficiencies.
  • Revise all of your topics and do well in the exam.
  • Proper diet and enough sleep would help you do well.
  • Don't lose sleep. A sound sleep of minimum 7 hours is necessary for the brain to function to its maximum.

General/Financial Awareness:

  • Be familiar with the updates relating to Banking and Finance sector.
  • Current affairs spanning across last 6 months concerning Indian economy, Awards, RBI, Indian Constitution, Agriculture.


  • Choose your language section well(English/Hindi). Be perfect with that particular section to do well.
  • The questions would be drafted in the following format: Fill in the blanks, Reading Comprehension, Phrases, and idioms, Finding errors, prepositions, Rearranging sentences.


  • This section is known to be very time-consuming.
  • You are expected to have good knowledge and the knack to interpret data from tables, pie charts, and other graphical formats.
  • You must have a pre-determined idea of what portion of this section can be easily attempted by you.
  • Possible topics are: Data intrepretation, Series and sequences, number system, ratio, proportion, Simplification, percentages and averages.


Computer Basics, Operating system, Internet knowledge and protocols, Network basics, Input, and Output. This will be required for the Mains exam.

There will be no interview for the candidates applying for clerical posts.

IBPS Clerk 2020 Exam Pattern

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern is not complex to understand. IBPS has made a very clear distinction between the topics asked in both prelims and main exam. IBPS Clerk is an online examination and is conducted in two parts-

  • IBPS Preliminary Examination
  • IBPS Main Examination

Facts on IBPS Clerk 2019 exam:

  • IBPS Clerk 2019 will be conducted in two levels Tier 1 & 2 (Preliminary & Mains). 
  • There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. 
  • No marks will be awarded or deducted for unattempted questions in the IBPS clerk exam.
