Revised Eligibility Criteria to apply for CTET

In a record decision made earlier this week, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has revised the eligibility criteria of CTET 2019. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on July 7, 2019. The decision was taken after the intervention of the honorable High Court. The official notification is released on the official website ctet.nic.in regarding the changes and resulted in the extension of date for CTET Application Procedure.

CBSE Announced Revised Eligibility Criteria of CTET 2019 on March 12, 2019.

On March 12, 2019, the board holds an official press release making the announcement of changes in the CTET Eligibility Criteria and to make sure the more candidates can take advantage of the new rule it even increased the last date to apply for the candidates.

It is important to note that the newly implied eligibility criteria are only applicable for the candidates applying for paper 1 (Class I-V), there is no change in the required conditions to apply for Paper 2 (Class VI-VIII). The detailed information on the same will be made available in the information bulletin of CTET July 2019.

Revised CTET Eligibility:

The decision was taken in respect to the order passed by court favoring candidates who applied to the high court for the par treatment and acquired a B.Ed. degree from a recognized institution. Below is the detailed requirement to apply for Paper 1:

Any candidate qualifying 10+2 from a recognized board with an aggregate of 50% marks or equivalent and candidates passed/appearing final year of 2-year Diploma in elementary education.

OR

Candidate qualifying 10+2 from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent and candidates either completed or going to appear in the final year of 2-year Diploma in elementary education in accordance with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) Regulations of Recognition Norms and Procedure, 2002.

OR

Candidates who qualified 10+2 or equivalent level with a minimum of 50% marks in total and candidates Qualified/appearing final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed).

OR

Candidates who qualified 10+2 or equivalent level with a minimum of 50% marks in total and qualified or appearing in the final year of the 2-year Diploma program in Education/Special Education.

OR

Candidates having a graduation degree with at least 50% marks along with Bachelor of Education (B.Ed)

NOTE: Candidates who already have a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) Degree from a recognized NCTE institution will surely be considered for appointing as a teacher in class I to class V. However there is a condition that such candidates mandatorily needs to undergo a six month Bridge Course in elementary education recognized and provided by NCTE. The course needs to be completed within 2 years of them appointing as a teacher. In order to fail to do so will directly result in the termination of employment.

After the final decision of the High Court, CBSE has allowed applications from all the candidates who already qualified the graduation degree with B.Ed. before the release of NCTE Principal Notification published on August 23, 2018, underlining the required minimum qualification to apply for a position of primary teacher.
