Exam

CAT 2020 Exam will be conducted on 29th November 2020 and the examination conducting body i.e. IIM Indore will release the answer keys along with candidates' response sheets during the first week of December 2020. The admission criteria have been released by Indian Institutes of Management and have kept students' hopes high who appear for the examination and even qualified it. Students who are expecting to get through the admission procedure in their dream institute and an interview call from the institute they wish to pursue their career must know the severe difference between IIM Call Cut Off and IIM Eligibility Cut off.

Here in this article, the actual difference between an actual interview call and the official cut off od CAT Exam at various Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) has been given.

CAT 2019

Difference Between IIM Eligibility Cutoff and IIM Call Cutoff

As per the official notification released on CAT website, we can expect CAT Result to be released in the first week of December 2020 and the participating IIMs will shortlist candidates based on the marks obtained by them in CAT 2020 after the declaration of CAT Result.

The difference actually exists because the cutoff released by the Indian Institutes of Management for admission is the minimum CAT Score that students must secure in order to be eligible to get into the list of students who are shortlisted for next stage of CAT Selection Procedure where they must sit through Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview rounds conducted by the institute.

  • Each participating institute that accepts CAT Score declares their own CAT Cutoffs required for admission.
  • Candidates must be aware of the fact that there is no official call cutoff for the aspirants of CAT Exam.
  • The institutes announce both sectional and overall cut offs that must be satisfied by candidates in order to be eligible for the second round of admission procedure.

What leads to the difference between IIM Eligibility Cut off and IIM Call Cut off?

On one hand the difference occurs because the Eligibility Cut offs are the least CAT Percentiles including both sectional and overall cut offs.

  • This is the minimum percentile that an aspirant must obtain in order to be shortlisted for the next round of admission procedure.

On the other hand, the Call Cut offs are the actual cutoffs based on which the candidates are called for interview and other procedures of admission.

  • The other procedures of admission include Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds.

Shortlisting candidates for WAT and PI rounds depends on the number of candidates available from the top. Considering the previous year's trend, the Indian Institutes of Management shortlist candidates thrice the number of seat available for admission.
